Desert Island#1
"Around the corner"

Ok , you asked for pictures , here's a little island just around the corner . Can't write much about the last few days , probably because of tequila Mike and his tequilas ...

Quiet Nights

3 days in the little island of Buad and the wind still wouldn't calm down . I was getting bored and really wanted to get going . The next leg of the trip was going to take close to 12 hours of sailing . I had to leave at dawn or i'd never get to my destination before dark . So on the third day i decided to leave before sunset and sail at night . The wind was still blowing really hard but i didn't care , i had to go .
I really like cruising at night , there's a magical feeling about it . Turn on the red lights and enjoy the quietness of being out at sea on your own . And after the first few hours the wind finally dropped a bit and the rest of the trip was really smooth , like a Magic carpet ride ! I was aiming for the south of Busuanga but changed my mind and turned towards the northern side . I had heard of a little bay where an englishman going by the name of "Tequila Mike" was managing an up-market little resort . I though it'd be nice to go check it out . By Sunrise i was slowly making my way along the North east coast of the island and finally pulled into Maricaban Bay around Nine in the morning .
That was my first real "long" trip on my own , 17 hours at the helm , sleeping only for 30 minutes at a time . I was quite nervous about it , but i feel really confident now that i'll be able to make it down to Malaysia on my own .
Got to go , i can see Tequila Mike waiving at me from the bar on his pontoon . This place is great :)
Enjoy

Plastic Man

I did try hard , i swear . I hated the place the first time i saw it . But since i have a tendency to "over react" i stayed on the island and tried my best to get the feeling of the place and meet new people . Well , it was a mistake . The more i tried , the more i fell into an instant depression . There was really nothing there for me . I had come there to meet some guys i met in Subic and we had some good times together , but the overall ambiance of the place was just too much . They have a funny way of describing people who are fake here in the Philippines : They say they're "Plastic" . Boracay is the Capital of Plastic People in the Philippines :) I guess the lesson here is to always trust your instincts ... I should have gone a long time ago .
So this morning i went to check the weather and decided i had to go , even with this unusual strong wind that's been blowing for weeks . I've got to thanks my friends Russell and Big Steve for pushing me to get my ass moving again . It seems that i always need a kick to get on the road . I would still be out there without their "Help" :)
So after a week of being really down , all it took was four hours of sailing and a little island on the way to Busuanga to cheer me up . I'm on my own . No tourist around , no techno music booming from the beach nearby , no Banana Boat , no phone coverage ... I'll probably spend a day or two here waiting for the wind to drop .
I miss my friends but ... Life is good , again !
cheers
